March 2017- Get Mucky for Money!
On Friday we joined Sir John Sherbrooke Junior school and took part in lots of activities outside. We also raised money for Red Nose Day!

Welcome to the Foundation 2 Unit - Pandas' and Owls'
Settling into the Pandas' Class - 7th & 8th September 2016
Our learning topic has been bonfire night. We have been using chalks to create fireworks pictures, used resources to make rockets and worked together to build a bonfire outside and sang bonfire songs.
November 2016 - This week we are learning about money. We searched and matched coins, used money in our shop and made money people.
Today we learnt about Remembrance Day. We made poppies and observed a minute silence.
November 2016 - This week we have been exploring colour mixing.
November 2016 - We have been exploring loud and quite sounds.
November 2016 - In PE we have been practising using the apparatus safely.
November 2016 - We have learnt about other children who need our help by fundraising - Children in Need.
Ahoy there pirates!
We started the Spring term off with the topics of Pirates and were inspired by the story of Peter Pan. We learnt the pirate song 'When I was one' and through talk for writing process rewrote the song independently. We also followed instructions on a treasure map and found real treasure!

Welcome to Foundation 2 (Pandas')
Our names are Mrs Spencer (Class Teacher) and Mrs West (Teaching Assistant)
We encourage all children to develop their learning by playing and exploring, being physically active and creating and thinking critically.
We provide an environment to promote this learning which is calm yet stimulating. The routine is flexible and allows for uninterrupted time to play and develop. Mrs West and I are responsive to each individual child and intervene sensitively to become an active, supportive ‘play companion’.
In the Pandas’ class there are opportunities to:-

* Relate to their own community

Autumn 2015 (September 2015)
This term's topic is 'Me and My Marvellous World'.
We have been learning all about ourselves, our bodies and our senses. We have been celebrating different festivals including Harvest, Diwali and Christmas.
September 2015 - Keeping Healthy
'Gerald the Giraffe' came to our school and told us why it is important to keep healthly and how to keep healthy.
September 2015 - Parts of our Body
We have been learning to name the different parts of our bodies.
September 2015 - 5 Senses
We are learning about our '5 Senses'. This week we have been investigating our sense of 'touch'. We have been using describing words (adjectives) to describe what we feel in the feely boxes.
September 2015 - Number Hunt
This week we are learning to recognise numbers. We went on a number hunt in and around school.
September 2015 - Sense of Taste
This week we have been learning about our sense of 'taste'. We choose our favourite fruit and recorded our preferences.
September 2015 - Healthy Teeth
We have been learning about people who help keep our teeth healthy. We have been using our imagination to pretend we are dentists and patients at a dentist surgery.
September 2015 - Ordering Numbers
This week we are learning to order numbers by singing different counting songs. Mrs Spencer got muddled up and we had to put the numbers back in the right order.
September 2015- Sense of Sight
This week we have been learning about our sense of 'sight'. We made a pictogram to record the what colours eyes we have. We also painted portraits of ourselves and choose the colour of our eyes.
September 2015 - Ordering Numicon
This week we have been recognising and ordering numicon shapes.
October 2015 - Sense of Smell
We have been learning about our sense of 'smell'. We have been identifying different smells.
October 2015 - Matching numerals to objects
This week we have been selecting the correct numeral to represent 1 to 10 objects.
October 2015 - Signs of Autumn / Leaf Man
This week we explored outside for signs of Autumn. We listened to the storty of the 'Leaf Man' and reinacted the story with leaves and a parachute. We made up stories and pictures of where our leaves went to.
November 2015 - Bonfire Night
We have been preparing for Bonfire Night by learning how to keep safe, making fireworks and making firework noises and chalk pictures.
November 2015 - Diwali
This week we have listened to the story of Rama and Sita and learned about how Hindu's celebrate Diwali. We made shiny jewellery like Sita's, made coconut barfi, learnt about 2D shapes, made rangoli patterns and made henna patterns.
November 2015: Remembrance Day
Today we learnt about how and why we celebrate Rememberance Day. We made poppies to show that we remember and observed a minutes silence at 11am.
November 2015 - Value of Coins
This week we have been learning to recognise different coins and that different coins have different values.
December 2015 - Advent
We are getting ready for Christmas. We were asked by a local building company to make Christmas decorations for their tree.
December 2015 - Rhyming
This week we have been enjoying rhyming activities and have been continuing rhyming strings.
December 2015 - 3D shapes
This week we have been learning about 3D shapes and have been exploring them through our play.
December 2015: Christmas Party
Today we throughly enjoyed an afternoon of party games, party food, watching a magician and a visit from Santa.
Spring Term 2016 (January 2016)
This term's topic is called 'Out of this World'
January 2016 - Whatever Next! / Tim Peake Launch
This week we have been reading the story 'Whatever Next!' and have been using our imagination to act out the story using props in our role-play area. We have watched Tim Peake's launch into space and have been busy making our own class space shuttle.
January 2016 - Man on the Moon / Day & Night
We have learning about the difference between day and night and investigated which planets are in the solar system. We have been naming the planets and painting them. We listened to the story 'Man on the Moon' by Simon Bertram and 'Bringing Down the Moon' by Jonathan Emmett.
January 2016 - Planet Pizzas
We made planet pizzas. We discussed where the ingredients came from. We also followed a recipe (instructions) and identified the imperative (bossy) verbs.
January 2016 - Rocket Challenge
We have been watching Tim Peake in space and finding out what it is like in space. Mrs Spencer set us a challenge; to make a rocket the correct size for our teddies. We all learned independently, with some of us working together whilst others alone. We used a variety of resources.
January 2016 - Space Day
Today we had a special day called 'Space Day' whereby we could wear clothes that reminded us about space, had a enormous planetarium dome visit our school with a projector show, in our space station we made space helmets, telescopes, launching rockets and split pin astronauts and we had a special space dinner.
January 2016 - Space Walking
Outside and in PE we have pretending to be walking in space with no gravity. We have been pretending to float.
January 2016 - Q Pootle in Space / Aliens
We have been reading the above stories and discussing whether aliens are real or not. We have drawing pictures of what an alien might look like and labelling it using our phonics knowledge. We have made our own spaceships and play dough aliens.
January 2016 - Researching Information about the Solar System
We have been using the library, our computers and asking others to find out facts about the solar system. We have been writing information sheets about the facts we have found out.
February 2016 - Live Link with Tim Peake
Today we were very lucky to be part of a live link with Tim Peake. Tim answered questions about space. He also showed us some tricks that he can do in space; including when he bent over he did a forward roll in the air and when he released a his water bottle a blob of water floated in the air, then he drank it. Our parents, grandparents and families joined us.
February 2016 - Space Buggy Challenge
We looked at space buggies used by astronauts exploring the moon. We made our own space buggies and went out and tested whose would travel the furthest.
February 2016 - Shrove Tuesday (Pancake Day)
We have learnt about how Christians around the world begin Lent and how traditionally people used up what was in their cupboards. We also learnt how people in the UK celebrate Pancake Day. We made and ate pancakes and afterwards had pancake races.
February 2016 - Chinese New Year
We listened to the story of the Zodiac Animals and discussed ordinal numbers. We looked how people celebrate Chinese New Year. We made lucky envelopes, wrote our names in Chinese symbols, made traditional Chinese hats, made fans and split pin monkeys as it is the ,Year of the Monkey'. We made and ate noodles, rice and crackers.
Father's day lunch
It was great to have dads, grandads, uncles, aunties and mums with us for lunch to celebrate Father's day!
Our Family Trip to Twycross Zoo!
To support our Amazing Animals topic we visited Twycross zoo, meeting and learning about all of the different animals. We all had a fantastic day!
Multi-sports at Woodborough Woods
We took part in 15 different activities alongside children from other schools in the local area. They were not phased by a challenge and came away proud of their achievements. Well done Pandas and Owls!
