Manor Park Curriculum

Curriculum Statement for Manor Park Infant and Nursery School

Here at Manor Park Infant and Nursery School we believe that the curriculum should be rich and engaging, that it should be skills driven and that it should give our children the very best start in life.  Prepared for anything. We are proud that our curriculum here, is as unique as we are.

All subjects at Manor Park Infant School and Nursery have been carefully planned and mapped out so that the knowledge, skills and understanding progress at the right time for the children. Carefully developed, our curriculum ensures we create links between subject areas ensuring children retain more knowledge which in turn enthuses them with a greater thirst for more knowledge. We want the children to know more, remember more and want more.

To enrich our curriculum further, we provide all children with opportunities to develop their knowledge in different ways. This can be through , school visits, extra-curricular activities, art, music or performance. These opportunities are so important as children learn in different ways. We understand that different approaches, spark different interests and we must remember this as we prepare the children for the next step in their academic journey.

Working in unison with this, is our inner curriculum of values-based thinking. We believe that it is essential to teach key values and empower children. Our values-based curriculum is our way of promoting and enhancing the children’s social, moral, spiritual, emotional and academic well-being. At Manor Park all children develop academically and personally and they are ready to play their part in their community and society as a whole.

Our Curriculum Intent:

Children learn best when experiences are first hand, linked to their interests. We aim to create life-long learners and children are encouraged to think creatively, to question and to explore. We systematically teach our Manor Park Values which involve teaching children how to learn and develop perseverance and creativity, how to work effectively within a team and to become aware of themselves as learners.

Curriculum Implementation:

Here at Manor Park Infant and Nursery School we believe that the curriculum should be rich and engaging, that it should be skills driven and that it should prepare our children for life.

We ensure that learning is staged and builds on prior knowledge providing the children with the opportunity to revisit vital skills and knowledge regularly and embed this learning; therefore becoming experts.

In collaboration with the junior school, Sir John Sherbrooke we devised a set of skills ladders to ensure progression and build upon existing knowledge.  This is how we ensure learning is progressive from F1-Y6 and the children are ready for any stage in their learning.

Curriculum Impact:

Children learn and develop well in enabling environments, in which their experiences respond to their individual needs and they learn to be strong and independent through positive relationships. Creating a love of learning through an exciting, child led curriculum has to go hand in hand with outstanding levels of progress and, ultimately, raised attainment. We strongly believe that we achieve this through dedicated guided group teaching and an expectation that each child will independently apply this learning. This is underpinned by daily assessment and planning in the light of this assessment, ensuring our children’s learning needs are addressed.
